Trader charged to Court for break-in

Matthew Alebiosu, a 27-year-old trader was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly breaking into an apartment to steal phones.

Alebiosu, a resident of Egbeda area of Lagos, is charged with burglary and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, said that the accused committed the offences on June 19 at Alaja Road, Ayobo, Lagos.

He said that the accused and one other person still at large conspired to burgle the apartment of one Mr Adeyinka Dada, stealing a Blackberry phone and one Ipad mini phone, both valued at N27,600.

Ayorinde said that the accused jumped into the compound of the complainant and destroyed the window burglar proof to gain access into the flat.

“He was, however, arrested when he wanted to sell one of the phones at the computer village; having sold one already,” the prosecutor said.

He said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 307 prescribes seven years jail term for burglary.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mrs J. O. Awope, adjourned the case till July 10 for mention.
