The students of Osun State University, Osogbo, on Wednesday morning shut down all major roads in Osogbo, the state capital, to protest their colleague’s death.
Oluwafemi Timilehin Shonibare, a 400 –level Microbiology student at the institution, was gruesomely murdered by unknown persons last month.
The deceased was declared missing for about 10 days before his mutilated body was found near a bush at Jafaria Street in Oke-Baale area of Osogbo.
Motorists were held up in traffic for several hours as protesters created bonfire and barricades in major roads in the state capital.
The protesters, who appeared in black Tee- shirt and jeans, looted shops and a super market inside a filling station at Olaiya Juctiinn and harassed motorists before a team of anti-riot policemen chased them away from the roads.
The state police command on Tuesday night paraded three suspects in connection with the student’s murder.
The Osun State Police Commissioner, Mr. Olufimihan Adeoye, said the suspects – Sakariyahu Abdulrafiu, a 19-year-old apprentice herbalist and two of his friends, Ayuba Ibrahim (24) and Yusuff Kareem (18) committed the crime on June 26 at Oke-Bale Area of Osogbo.
“The suspects conspired and killed one Timilehin Shonibare, a 400 level Micro-Biology of University of Osun, by hitting him on the head with a mortar- pestle,” the police commissioner said.
